Keir looks back over a successful year.
Keir looks back over a successful year.
Carnoustie Golf Club member Keir McNicoll has just completed a remarkable golfing year by combining his golf studies in the USA with success in a number of national competitions together with his selection for the Scottish (Amateur?) Team.

Speaking to the Club’s Match Secretary, Joe Gourlay, Keir states:

“This season was a big step up for me, and I felt I really achieved one of my lifetime goals this summer representing Scotland.”

After having a strong spring semester in the USA I felt I was ready to make an impact on the Scottish scene and by winning my first 72 hole event - the East of Scotland tournament - I think I achieved my goal.”

“It was good to see all the hard work I’d put in to my golf game pay off.”

Keir’s results for the season have included an impressive:

  • 6th place in the Scottish Strokeplay;
  • 3rd place in the St.Andrews Links Trophy;
  • 8th place in the Tennent Cup; and
  • Winner of the East of Scotland Championship.

Commenting on his experience in representing the Scottish team, Keir stated:

“The Home Internationals were a great experience - an experience that was made much better by winning and especially beating England on the final day!  It made it that little bit sweeter!”

“Hopefully I can continue to improve and build on the progress I made last season.  My goal for this coming season would be to make the Walker Cup team in September.”

Speaking on behalf of the Club, Match Secretary Joe Gourlay commended Keir for his efforts and congratulated him on his success.

He stated – “Keir has done really well this year and we are all immensely proud of him. Everyone in our Club will wish him the very best of luck for the year ahead and we look forward to seeing Keir progress further in his golfing career.”
